who we are
Carter Baynes is a specialist surveying practice providing commercial property advice throughout the south of the UK. The company was established in 1998, although the directors have practiced together since the late 1980s.
We focus on transactional and professional services providing advice to multi national companies through to private individuals. Instructions are dealt with by the directors of the firm; a feature which gives our clients access to over 60 years’ combined experience and an exceptional level of client care.

Development Consultancy
We specialise in site identification, land assembly and agency for both developers and end users, taking a hands on proactive role in a sector of increasing competitiveness and complexity. We provide a critical interface between the client and numerous professional advisers involved in the delivery of each project; from single stand alone foodstores through to multi let retail parks and high density mixed use developments. Additionally, because of our reputation in the edge and out of town retail sectors, we are frequently called upon to provide strategic advice and expert witness statements to support our clients through planning.
Investment Agency
Our knowledge of local markets has been critical in allowing many of our clients to achieve impressive returns from both strategic and well timed investment decisions, either buying or selling. With a wealth of experience and a reputation for clear thinking and objectivity, we take a balanced view on all the factors that affect investment performance.
Professional Services
We are involved in all the main areas of professional work including valuations, rent reviews, lease renewals, landlord and tenant negotiations, third party referrals, business rates and compulsory purchase. We cover all sectors, from high street shops, industrial and offices through to supermarkets and retail warehousing. Backed by many years’ experience of the region’s property markets, our advice is independent, thoroughly researched and, above all, commercial.

Director
Paul Suggitt
BSc (Hons) FRICS MCI Arb
A specialist in commercial professional work, Paul started practicing in Bristol in 1985,the same year as he qualified as a chartered surveyor. With substantial experience in valuations, rent reviews, lease renewals, business rate appeals and CPO negotiations, Paul also regularly acts in the capacity of expert witness, preparing reports for arbitrators, independent experts and courts. Paul is a member of the RICS Panel of Arbitrators and Independent Experts for commercial rent review disputes.

Jonathan Baynes
BSc (Hons) MRICS
Jon started his career in 1990 with J Trevor & Sons (now Colliers International) and has always worked in retail property. He has extensive expertise in both the food and non-food sectors, with a particular emphasis on large space, out of town and edge of centre retailing.
Jon is currently providing strategic property advice to a range of retailers, property developers and investors.
Associate Director
Helen Bax
Helen joined Carter Baynes in 2002. She is involved in all areas of out of town retailing, including lettings, development and sales.
